Well I am back to work with Adobe Voice. The more I use it, the more I am enjoying the experience of working with the software. I was a little bummed to find that either you cannot add video (or it is not super clear how you go about adding video to the presentation). I’ve gotten past this, though, and am moving along with building my project for LIT 306. My new favorite feature of this app is that it nags you once your audio clip goes beyond 10 seconds. I have not seen if there is a limit that it will place on the length of a clip, but the reminder that it is better to keep things short and sweet and have plenty of cuts from one frame to another is a great thing (especially for me). I have a real love for going on and on and on when I get into a stride with something, but this app is helping me remain mindful of this and keep things short and sweet.

TOC, New Decemberists Album, Sick Kid, and Story Writing

So I should be working on my analysis of TOC right now but today has been the day of distractions (wonderful and not). I had to stay home from work with my son, who has been sick for the last couple of days. By this afternoon, he seems to be feeling quite a bit better and I am guessing that he will be fine by tomorrow, which means we should still be able to go out and have a good time celebrating my birthday father and son style. I have also been thoroughly distracted by the new album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World by the Decemberists. Listening to it (over and over) has reminded me how much I love this group, Colin Meloy’s wonderful lyrics, and the super catchy pop hooks and folksy stylings that they seem to be chasing in this new album. I keep finding myself thinking about the different times I shot the band while they performed at Edgefield, the Crystal, and at the Aladdin Theater, and how some of my best memories from my early twenties involved being at their shows or listening to their music. On top of listening to the new album, I have also found myself stuck at the typewriter. I have a couple story ideas that keep bumping around in my head and the new music started shaking things out in different directions than I had been originally expecting. Again, this is something the Decemberists’ music has always done for me. With all of this, it has been more or less impossible to stay on track with the TOC project, but I will get back to work and have this thing finished by this weekend.

I hope you all take the time to check out the new album from the Decemberists. It really is fantastic.

Adobe Voice

Hey everyone,

If you are a person that ever finds yourself needing to create a presentation, make sure to check out the iPad app, Adobe Voice. I am trying it out for the first time to build a multimedia presentation out of a literary response for a class I am taking, New Media + Digital Humanities, at Marylhurst University. So far I am impressed with how things are looking and how easy the app is to use. I am a little bummed that there isn’t an Android version out there yet, but that is my only real complaint at this point.

I’ll make sure to share my final project (for those of you that are interested in hearing about Steve Tomasula’s work, Toc: A New Media Novel and my reactions to it) here when it is finished.

Progress Report for TOC Response

Well I am going through the process of gathering material for my response to TOC this week. I didn’t have the greatest success using the databases provided by Marylhurst through the Shoen Library site, but I was able to find some good articles through Google Scholar. There were some materials that would have been useful through interlibrary loan through Marylhurst, but due to the length of this assignment, I didn’t have time to wait for these materials to arrive. I just figured out how to capture video from the screen of my wife’s iPad, so I am hoping that I will be able to put together something that is at least visually interesting for this project.

How are things going for everyone else? Are you all going to use Adobe Voice to put your project together? I have been talking to Timothy Merritt and looking at some of the things he has done for New Media classes at Marylhurst. He has been using iMovie. I keep thinking that I am going to stick with voice and see what I can make with that. I just wish that there was an Android version so I could be doing this on a more familiar Android interface.

I’m looking forward to seeing what all of you create for this assignment.
